Chinese Use of Science and Technology to Advance its Geopolitical Aims

Charles Parton OBE
This report by Charles Parton and created in partnership with the Council on Geostrategy sets out to answer three interlinked questions: 1. Are the CCP’s scientific and technological objectives a threat? 2. What are the dangers of allowing technology to flow to and from the PRC? 3. How can Britain, as well as other free and open countries, mitigate the threat while working with the CCP on other issues where there may be shared interests? Charles Parton OBE spent 22 years of his 37-year diplomatic career focusing on China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In 2017, he was appointed Special Adviser on China to the Foreign Affairs Select Committee. He is currently a Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) and an Associate Fellow in Indo-Pacific Geopolitics at the Council on Geostrategy.
